PSL 9 Final: United Win Their Third Title As Sultans Disappoint In Yet Another Final

Islamabad United lift the Pakistan Super League title for the third time, with Imad Wasim claiming his third man of the match in a row.

It was another thriller of a game, and we saw quite a few in this tournament. Multan Sultans fought till the very last ball, but the 'Boys in red' held their nerves and secured the win. Karachi's crowd didn't disappoint, either, as it was a full house for a Monday night final.

Sultans batted first in the big game and put up a below par total on a good batting surface. Muhammad Rizwan's underwhelming tournament continued as he only managed to score 26 runs off 26 balls. Usman Khan on the other hand continued his sublime form and scored yet another fifty. Iftikhar Ahmed also known as Iftimania came to the rescue and powered Sultans to a fighting total of 159 runs. Sultans' batters had no answer to Imad Wasim's spin as he became the only player in PSL history to take five wickets in a final.

In the chase, United started off well, but soon were stuck in the spin trap of part-timers Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed. The Martin Guptill - Azam Khan partnership saved United from yet another collapse as the Kiwi opener put up his second fifty of the tournament in just three games, whereas the United keeper played a cameo of 30 runs. Soon after that, Multan made another comeback in this dramatic final, and it was all in the hands of two players United traded for before this season; Naseem Shah and Imad 'Clutch' Wasim.

A couple of boundaries from Imad and a couple of sixes from Naseem ensured that United were an inch closer to the trophy. At the end it was a 'Shah' who hit the winning shot, it wasn't Naseem though as he got out on the second last delivery of the game. It was Naseem's younger brother, Hunain Shah who guided the final ball of the game towards the third man boundary which won United their third title.

That was the end of Pakistan Super League season 9 as Multan Sultans fought hard in a thrilling contest but came up short once again and lost their third consecutive final. Islamabad United and their fans would be delighted as the team in red won their third title and that too after six long years. They have been part of three PSL finals in total; 2016, 2018, 2024 and have won all three of them.
