Another Twist In Pakisan's Cricket Saga: Retired No More!

Another weekend in Pakistan cricket full of entertainment - what's new in that though? This one took fans by surprise, as both Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir have decided to take their retirements back. These announcements come off the back of certain mysterious meetings between Pakistan Cricket Board officials and the two players. Both have made themselves available for selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

These decisions by Imad and Amir have sparked interesting debates on social media as fans have divided opinions.

Imad's decision of taking his retirement back was relatively well received by fans, as Pakistan desperately needs a quality spin bowling all-rounder in the lower order. Shadab Khan is there, but his bowling isn't as effective anymore. Imad was also in sublime form in the later half of the Pakistan Super League season 9 as he collected three man of the match awards in the playoffs. Also, Mohammad Nawaz's poor form has made it easier for Imad to walk into Pakistan's playing eleven.

In Amir's case things are very different as most fans are not in favour of him coming back. Of the few reasons, one of them is that fans are worried that his and even Imad's return will create a toxic environment in the dressing room as both have passed negative remarks regarding the current team, in particular Pakistan's ace batter and former captain, Babar Azam. Amir specially has criticized Babar's captaincy, batting approach and strike rate. So, fans are apprehensive that his return to the national side could spoil the team environment.

Others are in favour of the fast bowler's return as they think that he is still currently the most skilled Pakistani fast bowler, therefore our T20I side can benefit a lot from him. In addition, fans believe the PCB has taken a desperate measure to bring back Amir in light of Pakistan's other fast bowlers failing to exude confidence (barring Naseem Shah), including the captain Shaheen Afridi.

Pakistan's team does look stronger with Imad and Amir coming back, but is the PCB setting a dangerous precedent with their returns? Will this leave the young players in Pakistan's national cricketing circuit disgruntled? The PCB seems to have made a short term fix, without any foresight for long term planning. Great expectations now rest on Imad and Amir's shoulders to not only perform at the WC, but also to make Pakistan victorious. No doubt great criticism lies ahead if they fail to help Pakistan cross the finishing line.
